About the event

Overview 

AAHA will host a three (3) day online training in Basic Financial Management & Audit Preparation for Small Tribes. The training will deliver highlights of best practices to ensure that the management and accounting of the NAHASDA funds are being observed and practiced in accordance with the regulations. Participants will be given resources and tools that the HUD/ONAP program recipients (Tribes and TDHEs) can utilize to prepare for and be “audit ready” for their annual audit of their Financial Statements and Single Audit. The training will include a review of relevant sections of the 2 CFR Part 200 Uniform Guidance on audit requirements, review of internal controls, expenditure compliance, financial record keeping, the latest OMB Compliance Supplement for the NAHASDA program, and Year-end closing processes.

Trainer 

Maria Tagliavento brings over 31 years of experience and a practitioner’s perspective to the Financial Management Training. She has held a variety of accounting and auditing positions, including her 6 years with Aleutian Housing Authority, and 17 years with Cook Inlet Housing Authority (CIHA), in the positions of Controller and Chief Financial Officer, and was directly involved in the preparation of financial and compliance reports, Indian Housing Plans, and the Annual Performance Reports, and internal audit functions. Charles Anderson shares his education and experience in accounting and finance that has been providing technical assistance and training for over thirty years’ to housing organizations throughout the country. Charles’ spent 7 years as an Indian Housing Executive Director, 7 years as Operations Manager for the fifth largest Housing Authority in Washington, 3 years as a Training and Technical Assistance Specialist for the National American Indian Housing Council, and for the past 20 as owner of Northwest Housing Consultants, LLC, located in Olympia, WA.  Washington.
