AAHA will host a two (2) day basic to intermediate Board of Commissioners training that will cover: What governing bodies and leaders need to know about the funding structure and the Indian Housing Block Grant; What does it mean to designate a TDHE to administer the Tribe’s block grant; Fiduciary responsibilities of the tribal governing body or Board of Commissioners; Conflicts of interest; The financial responsibilities that housing authorities and tribes have to meet; Admission, procurement, and management policies; Federal laws prohibiting housing discrimination; What happens when HUD monitors your program; Day to day operations – how to make decisions, address complex issues; The relationship between the governing body and the Executive Director/CEO/Tribal Department Head; Developing Housing – Challenges and new ideas; Common problems facing Housing Programs; Responding to constituents; Current Legal issues, including opportunities such as “Lands into Trust”.
