AAHA will be hosting a two (2) day training on Credit Counseling. Participants will learn how to develop and deliver credit counseling services designed to help prepare Native American families to meet the financial obligations of renting, owning or rehabbing a home.

About the Event

Overview 

AAHA will be hosting a two (2) day training on Credit Counseling. Participants will learn how to develop and deliver credit counseling services designed to help prepare Native American families to meet the financial obligations of renting or owning a home, rehabbing a home, and handling emergencies. The Credit Counseling course will cover topics that include, but are not limited to:

· Credit Counselor’s Role & Responsibilities

· Identifying Your Clients: Analyzing Data; Affordability; Barriers to Accessing Credit

· Reading the Report: Types of Credit; Analyzing credit reports; Types of Negative Activity

· What Lenders Look at When They Review a Credit Report

· Affordability, Debt and Budgeting to Meet Financial Obligations

· Consumer Protection Laws

· Credit Challenges and Methods to Improve Credit


Trainer

Cielo Gibson has been working with 1937 Act and NAHASDA housing programs for over 20 years. Her work includes development of homeownership programs and policies for numerous tribes. As a professional trainer and administrator of NAHASDA programs, Ms. Gibson has extensive experience with Indian Housing throughout the United States and Alaska.
